ACC-RAC 2020 Cancelled

From the ACC-RAC website:

During this outbreak the health and safety of all has been a priority. ACC has been closely monitoring the developments and the guidance of NIH and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) among others. Nationwide the ongoing and growing threat posed by the virus has overtaken our event. The decision was made to cancel the event after travel bans by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, international travelers, our institutions and others resulted in an impossible situation. Other conferences including the American Council on Education cancelled their San Diego conference as well.

Attendees are reminded that they will need to cancel their own travel and hotel reservations. We will be in touch with registrants regarding follow up information.

Our appreciation goes to our team that has been monitoring this difficult situation and also to our sponsors, exhibitors, presenters and participants.

Product Spotlight: Read by QxMD

QxMD iconRead by QxMD provides a single place to keep up with new medical and scientific research, read outstanding topic reviews, and search PubMed.  Users can follow specific journal titles or keywords, receiving notifications when new articles are available.  They can also set up collections to store groups of abstracts, and share or follow each other’s collections.

While a free version is available at www.readbyqxmd.com, an institutional subscription will allow you to seamlessly connect users to your library’s holdings.  If full-text is not available, students can request a copy in the app, generating an ILL request to your library.

Logan University has been using the institutional subscription and reference librarian Sheryl Walters (sheryl.walters@logan.edu) would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the app.  Shameless plug: QxMD provides discounts for customers that refer other libraries, so be sure and let Sheryl know if you’re thinking about subscribing!

Product spotlight: Omeka

Logan University utilizes the digital archiving platform Omeka to make their archival photos accessible to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and researchers.  As the archivist for Logan, I recently presented a session on utilizing Omeka at a local library conference.  The PowerPoint slides for the presentation are available here and provide a nice introduction to the product if your institution is considering using Omeka.

What products are your library using that you’d like to let others know about?  Let me know at victoria.lyons@logan.edu and it could be featured in an an upcoming post!
